Mustard yellow!

One trend that is really standing out at the moment is colour, colour and more colour! Todays colour is Mustard! When we think of mustard yellow, we may think of the 1970’s where avocado and burnt orange were all the rage! Jump forward to 2012 and Mustard has gone from dated to fashionable, and has in fact been a feature colour for a while now.

Mustard is punchy, bold and summery, however yellow is a difficult colour to work with, but get it right and your room will look beautiful. Don’t be fooled in thinking that this colour is difficult to use with others; mustard yellow has a great adaptability factor, use it in a neutral based scheme as an accent for gorgeous pops of colours to inject energy into your room. Or bring warmth to your interiors by teaming it with charcoal. Mustard traditionally works best with both light and dark greys and winter whites as they create a super sharp look, and of course yellow is a perfect partner to monochrome palettes as it breaks up the black and white beautifully.

However, bright tones such as pink or aqua work wonderfully as this living room above demonstrates. It has a vibrant combination of mustard and hot pink which looks stunning together. It also shows how yellow can make an excellent colour for curtains, as the daylight brightens them more.

The living room above has the perfect balance of mustard yellow, its light and neutral with splashes of colour. Mustard yellow and grey are a particularly chic and modern color combination and the light grey furniture compliments the mustard and creates a beautiful furnishings combination. The use of the black and white curtains draws your eye further into the room and the fireplace is decorated with yellow accents once again through the footstools.
