As grey reigns as a favourite colour for interiors at the moment; you may be wondering what to pair it with. A mix between black and white, grey by definition is a neutral so the safe choice is to keep everything black, white and silver. But its varying shades, from light dove to dark charcoal, make grey as versatile as any colour so pairing it with a colour such as yellow enlivens a space and puts a stamp of personality on it.
Grey and yellow are a colour combination that works unexpectedly. From mellow to bold, the outcome can vary depending on what tones you use, with blacks and whites also creating a contrast. Your never to old for an advent calendar in my eyes and opening the little window this morning to be greeted with a chocolate santa’s hat reminds me that we are one day closer to Christmas! In the past weeks I have written about decorating ideas, whether they are modern or traditional, there is a scheme to suit any style. With the delicious Christmas dinner on offer making the dinner table a welcoming place for guests is surprisingly simple. Decorating the dinner table is often missed, but it is a great way to make Christmas dinner more memorable. The table decorations don’t have to be fancy or elaborate and this post will give tips on creating the magical feel this year.
The first step to preparing a Christmas table setting is to choose a palette which doesn’t have to be a traditional. To create a contemporary ambiance use a more minimalist colour scheme but with festive colours, focus on red and white, or white and green. Try adding some natural elements for a nature-inspired decor with ivy, fragrant cinnamon sticks, pinecones dusted with faux snow and branches. If your looking for a little sparkle, try using shiny placemats and napkin rings, glittery ornaments nestled on candlesticks of sparkly snow capped pine cones for place holders. Also, build up the colour scheme with colourful crackers, napkins and candles.
With so much attention drawn to the Christmas dinner, a fabulous and festive centerpiece will give give everyone something beautiful to gather around. Every Christmas table includes a beautiful centerpiece this can be anything from flowers to a bauble filled bowl. For a traditional Christmas style, mix holly and berries with ivy and other greenery in a low vase. For a modern centerpiece bunch baubles and glass candles in the centre of the table and surround their base with sparkling foliage, or for something extra special make a suspended centerpiece by using lengths of ribbon pinned to the ceiling to hang shimmering baubles over the table.
Set a party atmosphere and decorate your Christmas table with shimmering glass, decorative lanterns and eye catching silver baubles surrounded by glowing candles for a sophisticated themed table.
Gems and jewels are the perfect way to liven up a table. For an easy centre piece, add a wreath to the centre of the table and place a brightly coloured jug with flowers in the middle. Finish if off with jewelled napkins rings and shiny accessories scattered around it.
Make your table the centre of attention by suspending baubles from the ceiling with ribbon above it. Continue the theme by balancing baubles on glasses.
For a dramatic style this christmas, use bold tones of pink and purple to create a modern glitz and glam look. Mix up patterns and textures for added interest and pop quirky, bold coloured accessories between place settings.
Use teal for a contemporary scheme. The mix of gold and teal with impress guests and create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The warming colours will be a contrast to the crisp white winter, and use fairy lights for a comforting glow.
I hope that has inspired you to create a memorable and beautiful Christmas table for the whole family to enjoy!
